Flinging Rubber
Under the big top, my home is where they stake the pegs. I have been traveling for the better part of 20 years. Since I was small I have learned of life through the eyes of a traveler. Where I am headed I not know where. I throw my stuff around here and there. And somehow I feel at home.
When I am not walking the tightrope I like to help at the ticket booth handing out tickets for the shows. I know very little English but the guests seem to know. They see me, they read me, but do they really know where I am coming from?
If I am not at the booth, I can always be found handing out programs. This is where I have been recently. A new friend. His name is Dimetry and he is from Russia. His smile can melt the sky. He likes my eyes and told me just yesterday that he feels so comfortable around me.
When he is not looking . I like to unroll the programs and peel the rubber bands off them. I usually turn to him pull the rubber back and fling it over at him. He would turn and I would turn. He wouldn't know who did it but he always would; especially when he would see me look back with an innocent smile.
God I wish this moment would last forever.
